How to Make Kollu Chutney/Horse Gram Chutney/ulavalu Chutney/Healthy Recipe

 
 

Horse gram is a legume which is widely popular in south part of Asia.Horse gram is a lugume which is packed with high nutritional benefits.It is rich in Proteins and Fiber.It also contains essential vitamins and minerals including Iron,Phosphorus,Calcium and Vitamin C.It has full of antioxidants and helps in maintaing blood sugar levels.It also helps in reliving asthma.

 
Horse gram can be Prepared in several ways such as Chutneys,Stir Fries,Rasam and Soup.Taking Kollu once a week keeps you healthy.Here i have shared the recipe of my favourite Kollu Chutney with step by step Photos.Do check out and try out the recipe.
 
I usually have it with hot rice with a splash of ghee.

Ingredients:

Horse gram/Kollu-1/4 Cup
Shallots-6 Silted(Small Size)
Tomato-1 Chopped(Medium Size)
Curry Leaves-1 Sprig
Coriander Leaves-1 tsp
Red Chilli-4
Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
Oil-1 tsp
Vadagam-1 tsp
or
Mustrad Seeds,Urad dal and Channa dal-1 tsp(Mixed)
Asafoetida-1/4 tsp
Salt as needed.
 
 
Method:
 
Soak Kollu in Water Overnight.
 
Add the soaked Kollu in pressure cooker and pressure Cook till it becomes soft.
 
Meanwhile in a kadai add Oil.
 
Add Vadagam or Mustard Seeds,Urad dal and Chana dal.
 
Once splutters add Onion,Tomatoes,Curry Leaves Coriander Leaves and Red Chilies and Cook till it becomes soft.
 
Once ready transfer to a blender.
 
Now add the Cooked Kollu(Filter water and add) to a blender and add needed Salt blend Smoothly.
 
Serve it with hot rice with a splash of gingelly oil or ghee.
 
Filtered Kollu water can be taken as a soup by adding some pepper powder.
 
 
Pre Preparation:
 
1.Soak Horse gram with Sufficient water Overnight.
 
 

Step by Step Photo Recipes:

 
1.Add Horsegram in Pressure Cooker with needed water and Pressure cook till becomes Soft.
 
 
2.Once it is Cooked remove the water and Keep aside.(you can use strained water to make Soup).
 
 
3.Heat a Kadai and add Oil.
 
 
4.Now add Vadagam or Mustard Seeds,Urad dal and Channa dal.
 
 
5.Now add Shallots,Tomato,Curry Leaves,Coriander Leaves and Red Chilies.
 

 
6.Cook till it becomes Soft and Mushy.Once it is Cooled transfer it to a blender.
 
 
7.Add Cooked Horsegram in a blender and blend Coarsely.
 
 
8.At this stage add required Salt and blend Smoothly.
 

 

 
                    Serve with Hot Rice with Ghee 
 

 

 
Notes:
  • Red Chilies can be added more if needed.
  • Serve with Hot rice.
  • Strained water can be Used to make Rasam.
