Idli Dosa Batter Recipe

In this Post i have shared the recipe of Soft Idly Dosa Batter with step by step photos.The One Batter Which can be used to Make Onion dosa,Uthappam,Podi Dosa,Vegetable Dosa,Soft Soft Idlies,Kuli Paniyaram etc.

For Making Soft Idlies the Rice and Urad dal is Soaked For 3 hrs or you can soak the Rice overnight and urad dal after soaking for 3 hrs it can be storerd in refrigerator overnight to avoid Sour taste.Once soaked urad dal is grinded for about 30 mins and rice for about 20 to 25 mins.Once both the batter are ready add some salt and mix completely with hands for better fermentation.Allow it to ferment overnight.

While Making Idlies make sure the batter is thick enough.Add the batter in a Idly Cooker and allow it to cook for 10 to 15 mins and once the idlies are ready serve with Sambar or Chutneys.For Making Dosa,make sure the batter is thin.Add some water to the batter and make dosas.

Ingredients

Idly Rice-6 Cups

Urad dal-1 1/2 Cups

Methi Seeds-1 tsp

Salt as required

Step by Step Photo Recipes

1.Wash and Soak the Urad dal and methi seeds in Water.(3 hrs or refrigerate overnight)

2.Wash and Soak the Idly Rice in water.(3 hrs or overnight)

3. Add the soaked urad dal in grinder.

4.Add water little by little and grind.

5.Grind untill it becomes soft and fluffy.(30 mins)

6.Now add the urad dal Batter in a bowl of water,If it floats it is the perfect consistency.

7.Now remove the urad dal from the grinder.

8.Then add the soaked rice.

9.Add Salt.

10.Add water little by little and grind(20 to 25 mins).

11.Once the rice becomes soft add the urad dal Batter and mix for a minute.(else follow step 12)

12.Mix the grinded Urad dal and rice using hands for better fermentation or mix with laddle.

13.Allow it to ferment overnight.

14.Once the batter is completely fermented,it is ready to make Idly or Dosa.
