Kozhukattai which is known as Modak in northern parts of india.Traditional Modak is filled in Coconut and Jaggery.But now different types of Stuffings is done with Koya,Chocolates and dry nuts.

Choosing Ingredients:

 
Rice Flour:Rice Flour is one of the main ingredients in making Kozhukattai.so try to choose home made Rice Flour.
 
Making Home Made Rice Flour: Soak Raw Rice for about half an hour in Water.Then allow it to dry using Muslin Cloth or Cotton Cloth.Once half dried(Rice Should be little wet),add in mixer grinder and make a powder.Sieve and store in a airtight jar.
 
Jaggery:The another important ingredient in making Kozhukattai.Choose the best quality jaggery for best taste.If you feel Jaggery is not clean,heat the jaggery and Filter and add into Rice Flour Mix.You can also prefer Palm Jaggery For healthier version,

Ingredients:

 
Kozhukattai Maavu/Rice Flour-1 Cup
Jaggery-1/2 Cup
Coconut chunks-1/4 Cup
Water-1 Cup 
Cardamom Powder-1/4 tsp
Salt-1 pinch
 
 

Method:

 
1.Heat a kadai and add water.
 
2.Once water is hot add Jaggery,Cardamom Powder and Salt and mix.
 
3.Once the jaggery gets melted add rice flour and mix into a dough.
 
4.Cover and rest it for about 10 to 15 mins.
 
5.Transfer to a mixing bowl and add coconut chunks and mix.
 
6.Take a mould and apply ghee.
 
7.Now take a small amount of dough and place it in mould and press.
 
8.Place all the Kozhukattai in Idly Pot or Steamer and allow it to cook for about 10 to 15 Mins.
 

 

Step by Step Photo Recipes:

 
1.Add water in kadai.
 
 
 

3.Add Jaggery when water starts to boil.

 
 

4.When Jaggery starts to boil add Cardamom Powder.

 

 

 

5.Further add Rice Flour.

 
 

6.Mix till water gets absorbed completely.
 
7.switch off and cover for 5 Mins.
 
8.Transfer to a mixing bowl and add Coconut Chunks.
 
 
9.Mix everything.
 
 
10.In a mould apply ghee.
 
 
11.Take a ball Sized dough and Press.
 

 

12.Remove from mould.
 

 

13.if without mould,take a ball Sized dough and Press lightly.
 

 

 

14.steam in Idly Pot/Steamer for 10 Mins.

 

 

15.switch off and serve.

  • Adjust Jaggery as per your taste.

  • switch off and serve.
