Manathakakali Vatha Kulambu/Vatha kuzhambu recipe with step by step photos.This is one the healthiest recipe which helps in treating stomach issues.This recipe is made with wonder berry/manathakkali,tamarind pulp and coconut paste.

Manathakkali/wonder berry has many medicinal properties.It helps in treating mouth ulcers and stomach ulcers.The other benefits are it improves eyesight,reduce urine infection.It also helps to cure constipation.

With manathakkali leaves stir fry can be made by sauteing in oil with shallots and red chilies.soup can also be made using this leaves.The ripen wonder berry can be eaten raw which tastes good,but raw berry has bitter properties.Manathakkali leaves has berry in it,leaves can be used for cooking within 3 days when stored in refrigerator and berry can be collected and stored for more than a month in refrigerator.

Wonder berry can be sundried and stored in a airtight container lasts  upto 6 months.

    Ingredients:

    Manathakkali vathal-100g(Here i have used Fresh one)
    Shallots-10
    Tomato-3 Chopped
    Coconut Chunks/grated-1/2 Cup
    Ginger-1 inch
    Garlic cloves-4 Cloves
    Tamarind paste-1/2 cup
    Chili powder-1 tsp
    Coriander powder-2 tsp
    Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
    Curry leaves-1 sprig

    Coriander leaves-2 tsp Chopped
    Asafoetida/Hing-1/4 tsp
    Oil-1/4 cup
    Mustard Seeds-1/2 tsp
    Urad dal-1/4 tsp
    Channa dal-1/4 tsp
    Salt as needed

    Step by Step Photo Recipe:

    1.Make a Paste with Coconut Chunks, Ginger and Garlic Cloves and keep aside.


    2.Add oil in a kadai and  add Manathakali vathal.


    3.Saute till it turns into black colour or till aroma comes and keep aside.


    4.In the same pan add Mustard Seeds,Urad dal,Chana dal and asafoetida.


    5.After it Splutters add Shallots and Tomatoes.

    6.Add in Coriander Leaves and Curry Leaves and saute till it becomes Mashy.


    7.Add in Tamarind Paste.

    8.Further add Turmeric Powder,Chili Powder and Coriander Powder.

    9.After 7 Mins add Coconut Paste.

    10.Now add 2 Cups Water and Boil till gravy becomes thick.

    11.Finally add Manathakkali Vathal and boil for 5 Mins.


    12.Now Gravy is ready to serve.


    Serve with Hot Rice or idly.
