Snake Gourd is one of the vegetable and is called Pudalangai in tamil.Snake gourd is used to prepare poriyaal,kootu and gravy.Snake gourd has strong smell and try to choose young snake gourd.


Snake gourd is a common vegetable used in indian kitchen,like ash gourd and bottle gourd.This can used done in different variation.here i have shared the snake gourd poriyal recipe made with lentils and grated coconut.You can also make this poriyal without lentils,it also tatstes good.

    Preparation time:15 Mins

    Cooking time: Around 30 Mins
    Serves:3 to 4

    Ingredients:


    Pudalangai/Snake Gourd:1 Cup Chopped
    Kadalai Parupu/Chana dal-1/4 Cup
    Onion-1 Medium Sized Finely Chopped
    Green Chili-2 large Silted
    Curry Leaves-1 Sprig
    Coriander Leaves-1 tsp
    Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
    Coconut grated-2 tsp
    Oil-1 1/2 tsp
    Mustard Seeds, Chana dal and Urad dal-1 tsp

    Method:

    Pressure cook Chana dal and keep aside.

    Heat a kadai and add oil.add mustard seeds,urad dal and chana dal.Once splutters add onions,green chilies,coriander leaves and salt.

    Once onion becomes soft add Chopped snake gourd,turmeric powder and water.Cover and cook till it gets cooked.(you can also steam snake gourd and add)

    Now add cooked dal and grated coconut and mix.cook for 2 mins and serve.


    Pre Preparation:

    1.Pressure Cook 1/4 Cup Chana dal for 4 Whistles and keep aside(Cook till it becomes soft).

    Step by Step Photo Recipes:


    1.Heat a Kadai and add Oil.


    2.Once the Oil is hot add 1 tsp Mustard seeds,Urad dal and Chana dal.



    3.Once it Splutters add Chopped Onions, Curry Leaves, Coriander Leaves, Green Chilies and salt and  Sauté till it becomes Soft.




    4.Now add Chopped Snake gourd/Pudalangai and Turmeric Powder and Saute for 2 Mins.



    5.Further add 1/4 Cup Water and Cover and Cook till it gets soft(Stir occasionally to avoid from burning).




    6.Once it becomes Soft add Cooked Chana dal and Mix for 2 Mins.




    7.Further add 2 tsp grated Coconut and Cook for 1 min and turn off the Stove.





    Notes:

    • You can also add more Chilies If needed.
    • You can also Pressure Cook Snake gourd/Pudalangai for 3 Whistles.
