Tomato chutney/Thakkali chutney Recipe with step by step photos.This chutney goes well with idly,dosa,pongal,chapati and vada.

Tomato chutney is made with onion/shallots,tomatoes,tamarind,ginger,garlic,red chilies and shredded coconut.Saute all ingredients in medium flame till it becomes soft and mushy.Once ready blend into smooth paste by adding salt.

Tomato chutney can be stored in refrigerator for 2 days.

    Preparation Time:5 Mins

    Serves:3 to 4


    Ingredients:


    Shallots-8 slitted
    Tomato-7 chopped
    Ginger-1 inch
    Garlic cloves-2 cloves
    Red chilies-4 (if needed add more)
    Tamarind-1/2 tsp
    Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
    Oil-2 tsp
    Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
    Urad dal-1/2 tsp
    Chana dal-1/2 tsp
    Salt as needed

    Optional Ingredients:


    Coconut- 2 tsp shredded

    Step by Step Photo Recipe:

    1.Heat a kadai and add 1 tsp oil.


    2.Add all ingredients in kadai and cook in medium flame.


    3.cook till it becomes soft and mushy.


    4.Once cooled transfer it to a blender and blend smoothly(add some water if you think chutney is thick).


    5.Now in a Sauce pan add 1 tsp oil.


    6.Further add Mustard Seeds,Urad dal and Chana dal and mix with Chutney.




    Notes:
    • Add more Chilies if needed.
    • If u add Coconut add once the chutney is soft and saute for a minute.
